LOW MASS
INITIATIVE

a fundamentally new approach to climate and culture benefaction

LM-Web-Lt

Centered around the simple and unifying principle:  by reducing the total mass of buildings, we can drastically reduce their carbon footprint as well as the costs of our built environment.

Our Mission is to lead an order-of-magnitude-level reduction in the environmental and economic cost of the built environment.

The Change Potential

  • Wage-cost imbalance and supply shortages have resulted in housing crises in both ‘developing’ and ‘developed’ countries while today’s built environment is responsible for approximately 40% of global CO2 emissions.
  • Moore’s law can and should apply to enablement of reductions to the massive ecological footprint and burgeoning costs of shelter.
  • Emerging technologies make possible a renaissance transformation of the materials, methods and systems used to create our built environment.

Primary Objectives

  • Collect and organize low-mass resources for the design and development community.
  • Advance research in support of low-mass construction materials, methods, and integrated systems.
  • Promote and facilitate the understanding and application of low-mass concepts within industry and community worldwide.
